Description

The irregular galaxy, NGC 2101, in top right is the main target here, and it is an obscure and rarely imaged object in Pictor captured at 0.28" per pixel with EdgeHD11 f/10 on CGX-L oag-guided with MetaGuide.  The galaxy is only just over 1 arc-min long and requires good seeing and guiding to see much structure.

Fwhm's in the stack are around 1.5" as measured by Maxim.  This galaxy has been included in numerous papers on irregular galaxies but I'm not aware of any images of it that are this detailed - and with no sharpening applied.

Small galaxies can be seen throughout the field, including a dense cluster of yellow/orange objects near the top left.  They are only a few pixels wide at 0.28" per pixel but can be distinguished from stars by their profile.

The large-ish galaxy in lower middle appears to be PGC449906.

The bright red dot in NGC2 2101 is presumably a foreground star.  The blue of the galaxy suggests active star birth.

This is captured with Sloan photometric i' r' g' filters mapped to R, G, B with custom photometric calibration based on APASS magnitudes for field stars.  As a result, Ha emission shows as green here.  The overall bluish color is consistent with what few images there are of it.

This is my first use of PixInsight - only for gradient removal with DBE.  Broadband imaging leads to strong color gradients in my Bortle 8, 18.6 mag/arc-sec^2 skies.
